we may shave off a couple of degrees to the number before the sun comes up. a lot of clouds breaking up in and around the city. across long island, snow flurries in portions of sullivan county. ulster, dutchess county. then the bigger picture shows a trough out to -- it's going to form our storm system tomorrow. more on that later on. in the meantime, about today, it's about the gusty breezes, a lot of clouds and sun at times. 49 at noon. looking for a high temperature of 52 this afternoon. all right. let's get the bird's eye view on the commute so far this morning. a lot of the accidents have cleared. that's good news. but we have delays on the cross bronx expressway. what else is new? two lanes shut down by the sheridan expressway. it's getting slow out there. head over to the belt parkway, we have the accident eastbound before erskine. after erskine street. that's in the left lane. delays headed eastbound a bit.

traffic on the 4s. >> thanks very much. breaking news in manhattan. police have the bleaker street subway station shut down. they say someone slashed a man on the platform. "today in new york's" tracie strahan. what can you tell us? >> reporter: michael, this is an active investigation and a large police presence. not just on the street level here. belowground. play video now what it looked like when we arrived. ficers all around, we saw detectives descending into the subway station here at bleaker street when we arrived. police are telling us right now that a male suffered slash wounds to both his neck and face right on the platform before 4:00 this morning. the suspect fled in an unknown direction. it's unclear if it was the result of an altercation. we were able to speak to a witness who tended to the man after offensive stabbed.

we had gone down the wrong side of the subway. we saw him coming up the subway steps. he had like -- he was bleeding heavily. that's what we saw. we sort of helped him out. put pressure on his wrists. >> reporter: that victim was taken to a local hospital. his condition is unknown at this point. as we bring you back live, michael, not only are the 4 and 6 trains by passing the bleaker street station, we've seen police rope off this area of bleaker street from the crosby street side, the mulberry side. they're not letting anyone get into this area as the investigation continues. back to you. >> tracie, thank you very much. in queens, a high school student faces weapons charges for allegedly trying to attack another student with this large knife. a 16-year-old student brought the dagger to the high school in elmhurst. he tried to use it on a female student and threatened to slash her in the throat. the department of education says police were were immediately notified. parents in a connecticut community hit hard by gun

how a gun got into a middle school. parents wanted answers from newtown school officials last night. this is the newtown in connecticut. 46-year-old science teacher jason adams was arrested with a gun strapped to his belt. 4 investigates has learned that adams, who has a gun permit, first told investigate torsion he forgot to remove the weapon. then admitted he felt threatened. newtown officials do not believe there was malicious intent. >> it was an egregious error of judgment to have that weapon on person onchool grounds within our school. >> a gunl got into the school. that should be a wake-up call to us that says something more needs to be done. >> he faces possession charges and is on administrative leave. new this morning, a freight train hit a car in saddlebrook new jersey. our crew checked out the scene a short time ago. the car had some damage but the driver and passenger both seemed okay.

the suspect allegedly took off. a small white dog was seen in the front passenger seat. today in the race for president, republican john kasich will be upstate while donald trump is shaking up his campaign. a new convention manager, political insiders say he's preparing for a floor fight. ted cruz was in brooklyn. he looked for votes in new york's april 19th primary. >> new york gets 95 delegates. every congressional district gets to elect three delegates. so i'm here asking for your help. >> it's a great place. i love new york. >> john kasich entered the debate over cruz's earlier criticism of what cruz called new york values. kasich was at a deli in the bronx. former mayor rudy giuliani is not happy with ted cruz's attack on new york values. that's one reason he's voting

the price of a stamp is going to drop from 49 cents to $.47. postcards will be a penny cheaper. you can send them for $.34. all right. police chases are common in los angeles. one has social media buzzing this morning. two burglary suspects led police on a bizarre high-speed chase yesterday. during the chase they popped the top of a ford mustang convertible and waved at other drivers. the car even did doughnuts on hollywood boulevard. a tmz tour bus tried unsuccessfully to cut them off. the suspects were eventually arrested but not before taking selfies and giving high five toss onlookers. a rocket launch planned to expand the international space station in a way that's never been a at the present timed before. the rocket is going to carry an inflatable housing module. the module will be about 6 by 6 when it's folded up and shipped to the space station.

delays past the bronx river parkway. more weather and traffic on the 4s. lauren, thank you. 5:31 right now. breaking news in manhattan. someone slashed a man on the subway platform at the bleecker street station. tracie strahan was the first reporter on the scene. trace, good morning. >> reporter: darlene, even though this happened underground, i can tell you this entire area has been roped off, people being diverted away. step out of the way and show you officers that are keeping watch at the bleecker street station. if your travels take you on the 4 and 6 train. we'll show you video of why that's the case. we're told that a male suffered slash wounds to both his neck and face on the platform just before 4:00 this morning. right now, police are on the hunt for a suspect. fled in an unknown direction. they haven't given us a major description of who this could be. they're saying it was a male suspect and all of this happened right on the platform below.

a witness who said he tended to that man. he was bleeding heavily. he has been taken to a local hospital for treatment. again, darlene, no estimate as to when this area will be reopened or when trains will be running through this area. >> thanks so much, tracie. there's been an arrest in another subway attack. a 15-year-old girl is now facing charms for allegedly stabbing a teenage boy on a c train in bedford-stuyvesant on wednesday. crimestoppers, a tip led them to the arrest. the 13-year-old victim is expected to be okay. happening now, police are looking for a driver involved in a deadly hit and run in queens. there's a story we brought you on "today in new york" yesterday morning. searching for a dark-colored toyota seen in this surveillance video. a 45-year-old man died when officers say the vehicle hit him on 21st street near 30th road in astoria. police arrested a woman who allegedly stole a baby stroller

27-year-old woman here, she allegedly sent a young child to steal the stroller from the front porch of a home in north corona last sunday. she's charged with petit larceny and child endangerment. in long island, a former baby-sitter is charged with stalking a family. 29-year-old casey evans was fired back in november. last week she allegedly tried to sign out the family's 4-year-old boy from school without his parents' permission. on the same day, investigators claim she broke into the child's home in sayville to leave him a present. pope francis is expected to release a new document in about a half hour. it will detail his thoughts on marriage and family. the declaration comes off of two years of talks between the pope, bishops and cardinals and a poll taken of catholics and their congregations worldwide. the document not expected to significantly change the church's stance on same-sex marriage. but it is expected to address the issue of whether divorced

strahan was the first reporter on the scene. tracie? >> reporter: darlene, we do have an update for you now. we can tell you that that male victim is at bellevue hospital listed in stable condition. he's suffered slash wounds to his face and neck just before 3:30 this morning. the hunt is on for his attacker. we'll show you video of the large police presence surrounding the bleecker street station. it still does at this hour. this is a slashing that police say happened on the 6 train platform just before 3:30 this morning. it's unknown how that man came in contact with his attacker. but we spoke to a witness who had to tend to that man and call for help. >> we were just crossing the street, down the wrong side of the subway and we just saw him coming up the subway steps and he had -- bleeding heavily. that's what we saw already. we helped him out. pressure on his wrists. >> reporter: as that suspect was

we've seen no shortage of officers or detectives around this area. going down to the subway platform where in happened. i'm going to show you how they're blocking off access to not just the bleecker street subway station. bleecker street in general as the search continues for the suspect behind this early morning slashing. we're going to show you now what it looked like when we arrived. a large police presence going into the subway station. we're told by police that a male victim suffered slash wounds to both his neck and face on the 6 train platform around 3:30 this morning. we know his attacker fled in an unknown direction. police are telling me they don't know if that attacker acted alone. as we bring you back live, michael, according to one witness, this is a very bloody scene. that men tended to that male victim at bellevue hospital listed in stable kchblt again, police are now blocking off exits to the area. as lauren has been saying, the 6

bleecker street station as this investigation continues. back to you. >> tracie, thank you. new this morning, investigators are now trying to figure out what sparked a fire that killed one man at a home in long island. the fire started in the basement of the home on grand avenue in bay shore around 10:00 last night. they rushed to douse the flames. 62-year-old curly tutt was killed. several others who lived in the home escaped. in new jersey, police are trying to track down apparently hungry thieves who raided a refrigerator during a home invasion. luis rosales says a man and woman knocked on his apartment door in jersey city last month. he answered, they then forced their way into the home. rosales says the man threatened him with a knife. the woman sprayed his eyes with pepper spray. they ransacked his apartment and headed straight for the refrigerator where they took yogurt and chicken. >> she told me, poppy, sawyer,
